God is Sovereign

We are all grieving something- the loss of people we love, the loss of a job, the loss of income, the loss of a business we put our heart and soul into, the loss of a relationship, the loss of time with friends and family, the loss of events we were looking forward to- just to name a few. This quote sums up how I feel about the things we are grieving today.

"Sometimes we must grieve a different ending. A different ending doesn’t mean God has changed his mind about you. God is sovereign, even in our disappointment. Life doesn’t always pan out the way we hope or envision. It’s okay to grieve an unexpected ending to a season, a situation, a day, a moment that didn’t end in the way we hope or plan."
-Shelly Miller, The Sabbath Society

I am thankful for a sweet Lord that is sovereign, even in our disappointments. I am thankful that it's okay for us to grieve and be sad- as long as we don't wallow in that grief forever.

If you are grieving something today, know this:
1. It stinks and I am sorry.
2. You are not alone.
3. It's okay to grieve the things that you are missing.

4. God is still sovereign and loves you so!

EAT THE FROG FIRST!

Mark Twain once said

"“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning
and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.”

His idea was that if the first thing you do each morning
is to eat a live frog,
you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing t
hat that is probably (hopefully) the worse things
that is going to happen to you all day long.

I'm working to do this- eating my frog FIRST
(obviously not a REAL frog- but rather the task I most do NOT want to do)
rather than dwelling on it and stressing over it all stinkin' day long.

So friends.....EAT THE FROG FIRST!

A Perfect Mess

On this last day of Christmas vacation as I clean out the pantry
(seriously-who needs 4 boxes of pancake mix)
and fridge (bye bye Christmas candy!)
and Tupperware cabinet (it's not really Tupperware so why do I still call it that?)
I can't help but think of this quote.

I love the reminder that God doesn't want me to pretend
to have it all together with Him when I don't
(which is good because I so DO NOT).
He is right there with me in the midst of my messy life!
And for that I am so very thankful!

The quote is one of my favorites and is from a book titled A Perfect Mess
by the fabulous Lisa Harper.
You can find the book HERE

If you'd like to print out a copy of the quote you can find both a JPG in the folder HERE

Grateful & Joyful

I'm a strong believer that if we practice being grateful,
we will be more joyful!
The very best way for me to get out of a funk, is to count my blessings.
This quote sums up that belief perfectly!

You can print out your own cop in either JPG or PDF HERE.

The One Who Calls You is FAITHFUL & HE Will Do It!

I don't know about you, but I so often need the reminder
that I don't have to feel qualified to do what God is calling me to do.
If He calls me, HE will do it.

This is one of my favorite verses and one that I cling to
when I feel like I am not equipped or prepared or able to do what God has before me.
There is such comfort to me knowing it's not up to me!

Don't Make........

Read this quote this weekend and loved it so!
It's so easy sometimes to focus on our prayers instead
of on our Lord who loves us so!

A Reminder for YOU {and ME}

This last week before schools starts is CRAZY!

Everyone is tired,
everyone is overwhelmed,
everyone is exhausted.

Lists are long
and patience is short.

So here's a reminder for you
{and for me}:

SB Special Requests

I  LOVE getting emails and comments from readers asking me to make
special posters or and signs for them.

I've been working on several special requests lately and
although I emailed them to these sweet friends personally,
I thought I'd post them here in case any of you would like them too!

God Never Hurries

Those who know me know that I usually move at a pretty high rate of speed.
I've been described as energizer bunny-ish.
{Sometimes I think I'm more tazmanian devilish!}
I know that when people say it, they mean it as a compliment,
however I don't really think of it as a positive trait.

It seems the older I get, the more of a hurry I seem to be in each day.
Always thinking of the task ahead of me and the task beyond that.
Of the next item on my very long list and the one after that.

Sadly I've realized that by doing that,
by working and moving so quickly and always multi-tasking,
I often miss the joy of the moment.

I miss the the joy of actually being where I am,
with the people I am with-
focused completely on them.

And so I am constantly and continually working on that.
Trying hard to be in the moment.
To enjoy where I am and what I am doing instead of thinking ahead.
Slowing down and reveling in the task and people before me.

I recently came across this quote by A.W. Tozer that
reminded me that God....He never hurries.

God's Plans

Lou Giglio is a fabulous teacher and preacher whom I was blessed
to get to hear while attending Baylor in the late 80's and early 90's.

One of my favorites of his sermons is this one

A few weeks ago he tweeted the following quote and I absolutely loved it!

Such a great reminder that the stuff of today that seems so big
when you are in the midst of it,
is truly minuscule in terms of God's plans for your life.
I don't know about you but I often need that reminder!

NEVER

I saw this quote on Pinterest {Pinterest = CRACK}
a few weeks ago and I've been thinking of it every since.

It's so true, isn't it?
We all have people in our lives that we are at times tempted to give up on.

It may be that student that you have worked with over and over and
over and over again that you think will never "get it"!

It may be a family member, it may be a friend, it may in fact be YOU!

But....miracles DO happen every day!
So here's a reminder that we should NEVER give up!!!

Never Give Up on Anyone

Gratitude

I don't know about you but it's been a loooooong week
and I am pooped.

I needed a little encouragement today so I made this little reminder about gratitude.
It's one of my favorite quotes of all time!
Happy weekend y'all!

It is True

I'm reading Francis Chan's amazing book
Crazy Love
and it is truly fabulous!

He truly challenges me with every chapter and
although sometimes it is hard to read, I love absolutely it.

This is one of the quotes that keeps repeating itself
over and over and over again in my head-
such great food for thought.
